Two kinds of catering operators are reading this. One's already running Google Ads or Meta Ads (Facebook/Instagram) and has no real idea which ones are turning into orders - that's who most of this is for. The other hasn't touched paid ads yet. Stick with me - I'll get to you before we're done.
I've heard some version of this from operators for years: "I'm running ads, but I have no idea which ones are actually turning into booked orders." They know what they spent. They know how many people clicked. Past that? Nobody could tell them - including us. Not until now.
As of today, that changes. CaterZen now plugs directly into Google Ads and Meta conversion tracking. No developer, no support ticket, no third-party tag manager to babysit. You put in a few IDs, we handle the rest.
This isn't about a prettier report. It's about following your prospects from ad click all the way through checkout - and that's the piece that lets the ad platforms do their job. Google's Smart Bidding and Meta's ad delivery both use conversion data - details from when your customers order or place a quote - to find you more potential customers. That's the whole engine behind "automated bidding" - it needs a real signal to optimize against.
Without conversion tracking, your campaigns are optimizing toward clicks - that is, visitors to your website. That's it. Clicks don't pay your staff.
With it, they're optimizing toward actual catering orders and quote requests. Here's what that gets you:
One thing worth spelling out: when someone clicks your ad, they land on your CaterZen online ordering site - the same branded ordering experience your regular customers already use to browse your menu, get a quote, and check out. That's exactly why this works without a third-party tag: the quote request, the cart, and the paid order all happen inside CaterZen itself, so we already see them.
| Event | Google Ads | Meta |
|---|---|---|
| Quote requested | ✅ | ✅ |
| Item added to cart | — | ✅ |
| Order placed and paid | ✅ (real order value) | ✅ (real order value) |
That last row matters more than it looks. This isn't "someone visited a page." When an order closes, the real dollar amount and currency go with it - so Google and Meta know exactly how much revenue each campaign produced, not just that something happened.
Five minutes, no developer required:
That's it. Tracking starts the moment you save.
This isn't a generic tracking snippet you paste in and hope works. It's not a Tag Manager container you have to configure and maintain - and if you've ever handed one of those to an agency and prayed nothing broke, you know why that matters. You give us your IDs, CaterZen renders the tracking itself. We take care of the digital plumbing, and nothing here touches your checkout or payment processing.
Told you I'd get to you.
Catering has one advantage most local businesses don't: the person searching for you already knows what they want, and the order's worth more than a typical retail sale. Someone typing "corporate lunch catering [your city]" or "wedding catering near me" isn't browsing - they're close to booking.
The highest-intent traffic you can buy. Someone searching "office catering near me" is already looking to book - you're just making sure it's you they find. Your ad copy might read "Corporate Catering - Free Quote in 24 Hrs. Feeding 10 or 200? Custom menus, [city]'s top-rated caterer."
Don't want to hand-pick keywords? Google Performance Max lets Google's system find buyers across search, maps, and display on its own - a solid option once you've got some order history for it to learn from.
Nobody's searching Facebook for a caterer - you're putting your food in front of them before they start searching. Build a Lookalike Audience from your own customer list, so Meta finds people who resemble the clients who already booked you, and pair it with strong photos or video of a real spread. For example: "Planning a wedding or event in [city]? See real spreads from real events - book a free tasting."
This is where the tracking above pays off directly - the second someone adds an item to their cart and doesn't finish, you can follow up by sending them another ad. Something like: "Still deciding on catering? Here's 10% off if you book this week."

Where to actually start:
About 15 minutes to get either live. You don't need both on day one.
And here's the part that actually matters: the second you start spending money on either one, you need to know which ads are working. Set up conversion tracking before you spend the first dollar - not three months in, once you're already guessing.
There's no silver bullet in marketing. This won't fix a weak menu or bad pricing. But whether you're already spending money on ads or about to start, you should at least know if it's working.
